    Electro optic systems and liquid level sensors

    Traditional liquid level sensors based on pressure (diaphragm), mechanical or magnetic floating devices have moving parts in them. These moving parts make them less rugged, dependable and reduce their useful life.
    Conductivity probes have no moving parts but are limited to conducting liquids and cannot be used for hydrocarbons. But more recently with the advent of electro optic systems, level sensing technology has undergone a sea change.

    ✅These systems are simple, solid state devices with no moving parts and are economicalcompact in size and lightweight.

    ✅The electro optic systems based on infrared technology have an infrared emitter and an optical receiver.

    ✅The response time of these sensors is very fast, almost instantaneous and detection accuracy is +/- 2 mm.

    ✅IR sensors can be mounted in any angle and top, side or bottom fitted.

    ✅They can be used for a variety of liquids including water, oil, CO2 etc.

    ✅They have long life and are reliable.

    ✅They can withstand extreme

    Temperaturespressuresvibrations and shocks.

    ✅They can have different output types.

    ✅They can be directly connected to a PLC system for further processing of the output signal.

    ✅They have a wide operating temperature range from – 40 deg C to +125 deg C.

    ✅The IR sensors are not affected by the liquid hardness or conductivity and hence can be used in any geographical area without any alteration.

    ✅They do not require recalibration.

    ✅They can sense the levels of clear, translucent, reflective, as well as opaque liquids.

    ✅These liquid level sensors have a programmable timer inside for delaying the output switching. It increases the reliability of the output and takes care of any transients in the input like waves, bubble, foams etc.

    CO2 Refrigeration systems

    Even though Hydrofluoro compounds (HFC) are widely used as refrigerants because of their environment friendly nature (no damage to ozone layer), CO2 is also a popular choice as refrigerant in CO2 refrigeration systems.

    Some of the advantages of CO2 refrigeration system with CO2 as refrigerant are:

    widely available;

    ✅high volumetric cooling capacity and heat transfer;

    ✅no recovery or recycling required;

    ✅non inflammable and non toxic;

    ✅environment friendly;

    ✅the compressors are compact in size

    Some of the difficulties is using CO2 in CO2 refrigeration systems are:

    high working pressure and large pressure difference (3 to 5 times conventional refrigerants);

    low theoretical efficiency with normal refrigeration systems. Hence it requires advanced technology compressor and refrigeration system. The hoses need to be strong as well as the evaporators and gas coolers are used instead of condensers as there is no phase change of the refrigerant. They are widely used in vending machines.

    One of the difficulties in CO2 refrigeration is the CO2 detection and level control.
    Chemical sensor elements cannot reliably measure CO2 levels. Other alternate detectors include infrared sensors.
    In a typical electronic CO2 level control system, when the sensor detects the CO2 refrigerant level is below a threshold value, it sends a signal to the control system. The control system actuates a valve that lets in CO2 from a storage tank.
    The supply is stopped when the sensor detects that the CO2 level has reached the upper limit. Carbon dioxide systems have a higher likelihood of leakage than traditional refrigerant systems.
    As there is less charge in a vapor compression system using carbon dioxide as the refrigerant, a leak has a greater influence on system performance.
    Also a correct oil level in the compressors must be guaranteed in order to ensure proper lubrication.
    Hence CO2 level control systems play an important role in operation of the CO2 refrigeration system.

      Refrigeration compressors

      Refrigeration compressors are an important component of any refrigeration system. They convert the refrigerant in saturated vapour state to superheated state. There are various types of compressors used for refrigeration.

      They include reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, scroll compressors, screw compressors, vane compressors, etc.

      Reciprocating refrigeration compressors have pistons moving inside a cylinder in an up and down fashion. They have the advantage of ability to create high compression ratios but suffer from noise and low efficiency. Centrifugal compressors use radial flow of vapour for compression.

      They have blades mounted on a rotating shaft that create the radial flow. They can handle large volume of vapour but the compression ratio is low.

      As reciprocating compressors using pistons and valves are noisy, they are being replaced by scroll compressors.

      The latter consist of 2 spiral shaped members that fit into each other. One of them remains stationary while the second rotates around it. The refrigerant vapour is sucked into the centre of the scroll increasing the pressure. The compression is continuous, smooth, efficient and quiet.

      Scroll compressors are durable and more efficient than reciprocating compressors. They are widely used as refrigeration compressors.

      Depending on the type of application, like white goods, mobile refrigeration, light commercial refrigeration, commercial refrigeration, air conditioning etc. and the type of refrigerant used the right compressor with the right capacity needs to be chosen for a given application.

      For example, for mobile applications, small DC hermetic compressors are used while large scroll compressors do the job for large commercial air conditioning or industrial application.

      Refrigeration compressors that operate both with both Direct Current (9.6V to 31.5 V) and Alternating Current (85 VAC to 265 VAC, 50 / 60 Hz) are available.

      The system automatically detects the type of input power. The DC only compressors are used in refrigerators as well as freezers and are preferred for mobile applications. Dual voltage compressors operating in 12V and 24V function with solar panels also as the source of power. They are protected against overload and destructive battery discharge by electronic circuits. These DC refrigeration compressors are also used for comfort cooling systems in trucks to provide a comfortable environment for drivers during resting etc.
      Teklab oil level control system can be customized to function with various brands of compressors available worldwide.

        Innovative Communication Devices

        Main Features

        TK4 combines the established reliability and ease of installation of TK3 and TK3+ with revolutionary connectivity capabilities which opens new and interesting usage scenarios for the product.
        TK4 in fact integrates a wireless near field communication protocol that allows users to interact with the oil level regulator to expand product’s features.

        The communication technology adopted is:

        Extremely easy-to-use: data accessible without disassembling enclosures and connecting cables.

        Powered / not powered operating: several information accessible also when the electronics is not powered (useful for quick and easy in-house customization).

          Modbus Connectivity

          Enhanced Oil Level Regulators
          with integrated Modbus RTU Connectivity

          TK4-MB combines the established reliability and ease of installation of TK3+ with revolutionary flexibility of standard TK4 extending its connectivity capabilities through the introduction of wired serial interface based on Modbus RTU protocol.
          TK4-MB in fact integrates two possibilities of communication interface:
          ✅A wired serial interface based on Modbus RTU protocol.
          ✅A wireless near field communication protocol that allows users to interact easily and directly with the oil level regulator using a Windows based PC or an Android device (Mobile Phone or Tablet).

          The TK4-MB is designed to be connected to widely diffused Modbus RTU networks as a slave node opening the possibility of having the availability of info about working conditions of the product and thus of the system. Consequently it is possible to have remote monitoring of the compressor pack even further reliable and effective letting it possible to optimize systems performances, to prevent and manage alarms and to elaborate accurate maintenance plans.

          Typical applications are:
          ✅verification of product operation status and system operating conditions from remote control rooms (using Modbus interface).
          ✅verification of product operation status and system operating conditions during normal maintenance operations directly on the unit without the needing of any connection (using wireless interface).
          ✅functioning timings customization for system’s optimization.
          ✅alarm timings customization
